things, a slice from the equator of Earth.
The magnetically levitated hemispheres
represent the moon in proportion to Earth.
From center to center; from a distance,
nothing.

Pompidou, Paris
The Sun split open revealing Earth at the
center and the orbit of the Moon, in proportion
to one another.
THE BALL RAY
1993
Stainless Steel 55 balls with diameters spanning
from 400 mm to 3.6 mm
Installation: Taejon World Expo Collection:
Goverment of Korea
The Ball Ray is a portrait of the Sun, the Earth
and the distance between the two in proportion.
It is composed of a line of 55 balls with 54
intervals between the balls.(109) The diameter
of the largest ball, which represents the Sun,
is 109 times the diameter of the smallest ball,
which represents the Earth.
D'RAFT
1991
Poplar wood, steel, sand
57 cm, 215 cm, 132 cm
Collection: Eric Franck
Bed balancing on a point at it's
center of gravity.
COLOR COMPASS ATOMS
1993
202 magnetic spheres, 10cm diameter
Aluminum, magnets, paint
Installation: Galerie des Archives, Paris
Collection: private
The full color spectrum is
blended around the circumference of each
magnetic sphere. Earth's magnetic field
orients the blue faces of the spheres to the
south and blue's complement, orange,
to the north.
WEIGHTLESS ONE
1996
Steel, aluminum, acrylic filters
369 cm diameter disc, 100 cm diameter sphere
Installation: La Chaufferie, Strasbourg
Collection: private
aka: The Sculpture of Liberty,
The color wheel balances on a point at the tip
of the arm. The arm is free to move up
or down. It extends from the side of a steel
sphere which is free to roll. Thus, the color
wheel can move throughout the room, rise
and fall, spin, orbit and undulate with a light
touch much like an object in neutral buoyancy
or in Earth orbit.
DIAMOND
1997
1,300 White spheres, 15 cm diameter
10 video projectors
500 cm x 1000 cm x 2000 cm space
Installation: International Biennale of Nagoya
Collection: artist
The white spheres are suspended by transparent
lines in the pattern of atoms in a diamond crystal.
Around the perimeter of the ceiling are mounted
ten video projectors. People are invited to walk or sit
among the spheres. At times the room is quiet, just
the white spheres seen against white walls and white
floor. After some minutes the lights fade and the
projectors beam images through the spheres which
become colored in three-dimensional patterns through-
out the room. Eventually the projectors fade and the
room cycles back to tranquility.
HEADSPIN
1997-1998
Bronze, aluminum, mahogany, lead, steel
121 cm diameter sphere, 33cm diameter
Collection: Leonard Langman
Wood ring representing Earth's equator,
is suspended by light cables balancing
on a point on the end of an aluminum arm.
The arm is connected to a free swinging
hemisphere of lead attached to an axle
inside of the bronze ball, representing Moon
in proportion to the ring. Free to rock, roll,
spin, orbit and bob.
PACIFIC
1997-1998
Bronze, aluminum, lead, steel
121 cm diameter sphere, 33cm diameter
Collection: artist
Companion to Headspin.
THE RAY
1986
Bronze Cone:
10.227 m long x 9.3 cm large diam.
and .085 cm small diam.
Installation: Territorium Artis, Kunst- und
Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik
Deutschland, Bonn
Collection: artist
Portrait of the Sun, Earth and the cone of
energy connecting the two, in proportion.
DOLPHIN MOUNTIAN
1989
Kaori wood,
magnets 153 cm x 200 cm x 25 cm
Collection: Musˇe National d'Art Moderne,
Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris
COMPASS MOON ATOM ROOM
1990-1991
270 magnetic spheres, each 10 cm diameter
Anodized aluminum, magnets, nylon
Installation: Moderna Museet,Stockholm
Collection:Moderna Museet, Stockholm
The magnetic
spheres are aligned by Earth's
magnetic field so all of the black halves face
south. At the same time, the field of each
sphere inter-links with the fields of the spheres
surrounding it. Any motion of one sphere is
transfered throughout the entire array. The
arrangement of the spheres is the same as the
pattern of atoms in a crystal. People may walk
inside.
DOUBLE BED CAR
1991
Wood, magnets
38 cm x 162 cm x 262 cm
Collection: private
Pop up equal sign, twin sleepers whose
fields influence each other.
Double bottomless.
EARTH GLIDES AN HOUR
(TIME CAPSULE) 1992
Aluminum, magnets
71.5 cm x 7.6 cm diameter
Installation: La Box, Bourges Collection:
Francis M. Naumann
The round ends of this sculpture represent
Earth; the length represents, proportionally,
how far Earth travels along it's orbit in the
course of one hour. The lift magnets are
installed under the concrete floor.
STANDING ON THE MOON
1992
Aluminum, magnets 60 cm x 112 cm x 60 cm
Collection: Institute Magnetic, Grenoble
The relative proportions of Earth
and Moon. The center of gravity of the
Earth-Moon system is inside Earth at a depth
below the surface equal to the radius of the
Moon.
EARTH MOON CENTERED
1992
Aluminum, magnets 30 cm x112 cm diameter
Collection: Youssef Vahabzadeh
Earth's equator and the Moon in proportion,
mounted tangent to the wall.

MOUNT
1993
Bass wood, steel 70 cm x 20 cm x 254 cm
Collection: artist
A shape composed of the
three curves of the Sun, Earth and Moon
in proportion. The central diameter represents
Earth; the ends represent the Moon and the
long curve is an arc of the Sun. A vehicle to
straddle from a dream.
SERENE IN SUSPENSE
1999
Aquaresin, magnets, stainless steel cable,
aluminum, lead 180cm x 75 cm x 140cm
Installation: Deitch Projects, Whitney Museum
Biennale de Lyon, Mito
Collection: Alvin and Joan Einbender
The figure is balanced and suspended by
a fine line from her navel connected to
a pole near the ceiling. The pole counter-
balances the figure's weight, allowing it to
move vertically. A strong magnet in her
head aligns with Earth's magnetic field
causing the figure's sex to face south,
where the sun is, in the manner of a
compass.
